WestLawn Building Wins Golden Nail Award
The newly constructed WestLawn building, located at the BullStreet District, recently received the Columbia Chamber’s Golden Nail Award.
As Columbia’s first mass timber office building, WestLawn pushes the envelope for architectural design in both the BullStreet District and in the greater Midlands region. Featuring 79,000 sq. ft., WestLawn is also the largest of its kind in South Carolina and reflects an emphasis on preserving historic buildings alongside modern architecture — essentially taking the best of the old and new.
WestLawn, owned and developed by Hughes Development Corporation, the master developers of the BullStreet District, was designed by globally-renowned architectural firm Perkins&Will and supports great design, efficient construction, comfortable living and environmental responsibility.
The building’s mass timber construction uses a renewable resource that adds texture and warmth, while reducing the structure’s carbon footprint. The interiors feature exposed wood ceilings and a system of steel columns and beams in innovative sculptural forms. WestLawn utilizes 10-foot-plus windows to maximize natural light and includes gigabit-speed internet.
In August 2022, WestLawn’s flagship tenant, Robinson Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC, moved into the WestLawn, where they occupy the top two floors, including a rooftop terrace that oversees the BullStreet Distrct and has great views of Columbia. WestLawn’s first floor will house retail stores, with the remaining floors offering Class A office space. Public green spaces are included in the exterior design plans, which reflect the new urbanist vision of a walkable, vibrant district for BullStreet, the largest urban redevelopment project on the East Coast.
