In the last several months, there’s been plenty of dirt moving on various construction projects in Columbia’s BullStreet District.

Now there’s another one to add to the list.

McCrory Construction Company shared on its social media channels that work was getting under way for the Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, a project that was announced more than two years ago.

“Ready to roll!!” the construction firm posted on Facebook on May 26. “We are excited to be back out at BullStreet once more to get started on Iron Hill Brewery. Lots of activity going on over there to look forward to enjoying soon!”

The construction company didn’t specify a timeframe for when the brewery might be ready, and it is simply listed as “coming soon” on Iron Hill’s website. There are numerous Iron Hill locations across the eastern U.S., including spots in Pennsylvania, Georgia, New Jersey, Delaware and South Carolina. There currently is an Iron Hill location on Haywood Road in Greenville.

The Columbia Iron Hill location will front Bull Street, not far from the Starbucks at the site. The brewery’s menu in Greenville shows an extensive list of beers, as well as food items including burgers, pizza, appetizers, salads, sandwiches and steaks, among other offerings.

The Iron Hill project is one of several now underway at BullStreet, where Greenville’s Hughes Development and the city of Columbia are in the midst of a years-long effort to overhaul the 181-acre site.

A new Publico restaurant just opened near Segra Park, where the Columbia Fireflies are in the midst of their 2022 minor league baseball season.

Meanwhile, there are tenants in the Merrill Gardens senior living facility at the site and in the townhomes on the southeast portion of the property. And despite a destructive fire in 2020, work is forging ahead on a $55 million project to turn the historic Babcock Building into more than 200 apartments.

Two parking garages have been built on the site, including one that is being used for Fireflies games, and work is being completed on the WestLawn building, which will have office and retail space, at the site. A food hall is planned for the district, and the Bennet at BullStreet apartments are under construction.
