The City of Columbia’s 2015 Christmas ornament will pay tribute to Spirit Communications Park, the still under construction baseball stadium that will be the home of the city’s new minor league baseball team.

Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin showed off the new ornament Thursday morning at City Hall.

Spirit Communications Park will open next spring when it hosts the first game of the Columbia Fireflies, the South Atlantic League franchise that’s making its way to the capital city. That game, which pits the Fireflies versus the Greenville Drive, will take place October 4, 2015

The part will be the anchor of the new Bull Street development, and will seat 9,000 fans for games, and 15,000 for outdoor concerts. It will also be a public park that’s open year-round, complete with a track for walkers and joggers.

All money raised from sales of the ornament will go to the Babcock Center Foundation. “Our mission is to empower people with lifelong disabilities to enjoy life by promoting abilities and respecting choice,” said Peyton Bryant, the Vice-Chair of the Babcock Center Foundation.

You can purchase the ornament at the Columbia Visitor’s Center or by calling the Babcock Center Foundation at 803.799.1970. You can also go to the Babcock Center website.
