Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is coming to the BullStreet District, the district announced on social media, with plans to take up shop right off of the new area’s new central hub.
“From post-dinner treats to sunny afternoons spent outside, your future plans just got a whole lot sweeter,” the March 19 social media post said.
The new ice cream shot will sit right next to the Bennet at BullStreet and directly across from the recently opened Gather COLA, Methodical Coffee and The Lawn — a oval turf field designed as a “dynamic community gathering space” for “dining, recreation and cultural connection,” according to the BullStreet District website.
The 3,750-square-foot turf play area has already become a popular spot for kids visiting BullStreet with their families, and also includes café and bistro tables.
Soon, it will also feature South Carolina pizza shop Coastal Crust in the revitalized Williams Building, which will sits at the head of The Lawn.
“We can’t wait for this nationally loved ice cream shop to bring its one-of-a-kind flavors to The Lawn,” the BullStreet District said on social media.
Known for its handmade ice creams and creative flavors, Jeni’s Ice Cream first announced plans to head to Columbia in a March 11 newsletter which said the Ohio-based chain was “setting up shop” in four new cities and encouraging customers to “get read to scoop in.”
The new location in Columbia would be the fourth location in South Carolina, joining a location on King Street in Charleston, Belk Drive in Mt. Pleasant and East Broad Street in Greenville. Jeni’s currently has a total of 30 locations nationwide.
The ice cream business was first started by James Beard Award winner Jeni Britton Bauer in Columbus, Ohio, in 2002, and quickly expanded outside of its original market.
Since, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has become known for its unique flavors — often inspired by art, history and pop culture — and its “ultra smooth buttercream-like body you just won’t find anywhere else,” according to the shop’s website.
In addition to ice cream shops, Jeni’s ice cream is also available in grocery stores and is shipped nationally.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream said customers can “stay tuned for more details” on the new shops, including an opening date, on its website. The new location in Columbia would be the fourth location in South Carolina, joining a location on King Street in Charleston, Belk Drive in Mt.
